Welcome to 5th Grade-Room 14

2016-2017 is going to be a great year for learning!

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to a new school year! I want to extend to you and your child my warmest welcome in the fifth-grade classroom. My name is Ms. Storms and I am one of four fifth-grade teachers at Phil Swing this year. I have many years of experience working with children of all ages. My philosophy for learning is that each child is unique and each learns in a different way. Instruction will be differentiated and different modalities will be used to allow all children the chance to shine! One of my jobs as a teacher is to help your child discover his or her individuality and work alongside with each child to maximize it. I believe in hands-on experiences and learning creatively. As an educator, I value my job and the opportunity that I will have to teach your child the requirements he/she will need to complete by the end of this school year. Your child’s success in my classroom is my number one priority.

Fifth grade is a challenging year that asks students to not only increase his/her skills and knowledge but to also independently demonstrate skills that he/she has acquired. We will be very busy with lots of activities, collaborative projects, creative writing projects, reading, math, science, and social studies. Mastery of basic multiplication and division facts is essential. Daily independent reading at home will be expected, as will bi-monthly book report projects. Please be assured that each child will be working at his/her own level.

I thank you for giving me the opportunity to make a difference in your child’s life. I look forward to interacting and working with you and your child this upcoming school year. Please know that I am here for you with any concerns that you may have. Strong relationships are an important part of learning and together we (student, parent, and teacher) will achieve wonderful things. Building and maintaining relationships are important in developing a strong classroom community.

Please feel free to call me at school (760)344-3350 or e-mail me at your leisure.
